COLUMBUS, Ga. - The sixth-ranked University of Tampa women's soccer team fell by a 2-0 score to Columbus State University in a rematch of the 2007 NCAA Quarterfinals. The Spartans are now 1-2 while the Cougars improve to 2-1.
UT had its share of offensive chances, outshooting CSU 16-6, including a 6-5 shots on goal advantage. Courtney Evans had three of Tampa's shots on goal, while Jazmin Perry had two and Maria Mohammed one.
Columbus State took the early lead when Gina Goforth scored unassisted in the 11th minute. They tacked on a late goal (77:48) to put the match out of reach.
Kendall Bourdon played goalkeeper for Tampa, turning away three Cougar shots in her third career game.
Tampa returns to action on Sunday as it meets Tusculum College at 11 a.m. The neutral site meeting will also be played at the CSU campus.
