Tampa Women’s Soccer Earns Eighth NCAA Tournament Bid
INDIANAPOLIS - The University of Tampa women's soccer team has received an invitation to the 2011 NCAA Division II tournament, as it will meet the University of North Alabama in Friday's opener in Winter Park, Fla. The game is slated to begin at 5 p.m.
The matchup between the Spartans and Lions is a rematch of the 2010 first round, with Tampa advancing on a 2-1 overtime victory. The winner of Friday's match will play host Rollins College on Sunday at noon.
The Sunshine State Conference tournament champions enter the NCAA tournament with an overall record of 13-5-2, while riding a three-match winning streak. Head coach Gerry Lucey's squad is also unbeaten in nine consecutive postseason contests, dating back to 2009.
The champions of the Gulf South Conference, North Alabama owns a 17-3 record and is coming off a 5-3 victory over Valdosta State in Sunday's GSC title game. The Lions have won seven consecutive games, though its three losses each came to teams that UT has defeated in Lynn, Florida Southern and Valdosta State.
