Courtney Peffley Becomes UT’s First Academic All-American in Women’s Soccer
TOWSON, Md. - University of Tampa women's soccer student-athlete Courtney Peffley became the first person in program history to earn Capital One Academic All-America honors.
The 2012 Capital One Academic All-America® NCAA Division II Men's and Women's Soccer Teams were both announced on Wednesday, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
Peffley, a senior from Rheems, Pa., carries a 3.90 GPA while majoring in marketing. She is also a standout performer on the field as a member of both the all-Sunshine State Conference and NCAA South Region team. In 2012, she had seven goals and a team-leading 12 assists while starting all 23 matches.
She is no stranger to academic success, being a three-time Capital One Academic All-District performer. She has also been named to the SSC Commissioner's Honor Roll each year at UT, including being recognized for a perfect 4.0 GPA in the fall of her junior year.
The Capital One Division II Academic All-America® program is being financially supported by the NCAA Division II national governance structure to assist CoSIDA with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2012-13 D-II Academic All-America® teams program.
To be eligible for Academic All-America® consideration, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative G.P.A. of 3.30 on a scale of 4.00, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standings at his/her current institution and be nominated by his/her sports information director.
Since the program's inception in 1952, CoSIDA has bestowed Academic All-America honors on more than 16,000 student-athletes in Divisions I, II, III and NAIA, covering all NCAA championship sports.
