Spartan Streak Continues Over Sharks
TAMPA, Fla.-The No. 5 University of Tampa women's soccer team defeated the Nova Southeastern University Sharks by a score of 3-0 on Saturday night at Pepin Stadium.
The Spartans improve to an overall 7-0 record with the non-conference matchup while the Sharks fall to 4-2 on the season.
The scoreless first half came to a close with two minutes left on the clock. The Spartans jumped on the board with a goal by forward Kaley Ward. Fellow freshman Paige Smith brought a change of pace to the game with her substitution and launched the ball to Ward recording the assist.
The Sharks were unable to get a shot off against the Spartans in the first half as Tampa outshot Nova by a 9-0 margin. Keeper Alyson Gregorowicz did not see any action in the first half.
The Spartans continued their offensive momentum into the second half. Emily Jones rocketed the ball down the field to Ward registering her second goal of the game. Gabby Russo lengthened the Spartan lead to three in the 66th minute of play with Jones recording her second assist of the game.
The Sharks were no match for the Spartan onslaught who registered a mere three shots with two shots on goal throughout the 90-minute match.
The Spartans return to action on Wednesday, September 25 to host Palm Beach Atlantic University at 7 p.m. at Pepin Stadium. Live stats and a webcast will be available through TampaSpartans.tv.
