UT Comes in at No. 19 in NSCAA Poll
KANSAS CITY, Kan. - The University of Tampa women's soccer team continues its reign in the national rankings as the Spartans are now listed at No. 19 in the nation according to the NSCAA/Continental Tire NCAA Division II rankings.
The Spartans are now 4-0-1 while outscoring their opponents 16-1. Additionally, Tampa has turned in three consecutive shutouts while not allowing a goal in just over 311 minutes of play.
UT's victories are over NCAA Division II opponents Carson-Newman and Tusculum along with a pair of in-state opponents in Webber International and Southeastern. The draw came in a scoreless match with Tusculum College.
Tampa is one of three SSC schools in the top-25 as Rollins College comes in at No. 11 while Barry University shot up to No. 8 following a victory over then-No. 10 North Georgia last week.
Junior Cici Gonzalez leads the Spartans with six goals and three assists to go with three game-winning goals. Chelsea Martin has notched three goals as Lauren Moore leads the squad in assists with five.
Defensively, UT has allowed just 29 shots while outshooting opponents 131-29. Freshman Caroline Frykgard was named the SSC Defensive Player of the Week after a pair of shutouts last week. The freshman now has a 0.22 GAA with 14 saves on the season.
UT has now been ranked for 21 consecutive weeks. Additionally, UT has earned a mention in the poll in a total of 13 seasons, including 12 straight.
The Spartans meet Georgia Southwestern University on Tuesday on a neutral site in Valdosta, Ga., at 7 p.m. UT then travels to Nova Southeastern on Saturday at 6 p.m., for a South Region contest.
