Tampa Set To Meet Lee In First Round Matchup
FLORENCE, Ala. - The University of Tampa Spartans women's soccer team will face off against the Lee University Flames in the first round of the NCAA South Regional hosted by the University of North Alabama.
Tampa earned the No. 3 seed and enter the tournament boasting a record of 11-4-5, fell to the Barry Buccaneers in the Sunshine State Conference Championship game in their last match. The No. 6 seeded Lee Flames come into the match with a record of 11-4-4, and dropped their last contest in the Gulf South Championship to the University of North Alabama.
The Spartan attack is led by Cici Gonzalez, who's tallied 11 goals, two assists and 26 points on the season. Balancing out the attack is Korey O'Rourke, Nastasia Asgedom and Lauren Cicero, who have each tallied five, five and four goals respectively.
UT's defense is anchored down by a talented backline featuring a mix of youth and experience with sophomore Miranda Gonzalez, freshman Ali Robinson, and senior Audrey Hayward. Sophomore keeper Caroline Frykgard has also been in phenomenal form between the pipes all season as she has accumulated 90 saves on the season while boasting goals against average .94. The Keeper has also posted a save percentage of .833.
