Spartans Defeat No. 10 Rollins on Road
WINTER PARK, Fla. - The University of Tampa women's soccer team knocked off its second top-10 opponent this season with a 2-1 victory over No. 10 Rollins College.
The Spartans improve to 4-1-1 on the season while winning their first Sunshine State Conference contest to stand at 1-1 on the year. The Tars fall to 4-2 as the loss puts them at 0-1 in league action.
Tampa scored in the 19th minute as Cici Gonzalez netted her fourth goal of the season and moved within two of Tai Kirklin for second in the UT all-time goals scored list. Gonzalez now has 49 career goals as she chases Kirklin (51) and all-time leader Shelby Kuni (63). Gabby Scirica assisted the first goal of the contest.
Rollins needed just over three minutes in the second half to knot the match at 1-1 as Kathryn O'Brien scored off a Kat Weiss corner kick.
Freshman Korey O'Rouke registered the game-winner in the 72nd minute as she connected on a rebound that was assisted by Hannah Watts.
Caroline Frykgard finished with four saves in goal for Tampa as Rollins had a 22-14 advantage in shots. The Spartans would hold the edge where it counted, recording six shots on goal compared to five for the Tars.
