Spartans Fall To Panthers In Final Conference Matchup
MELBOURNE, Fla. - The University of Tampa women's soccer team took on Florida Tech Saturday night at Rick Stottler Field hoping for a second consecutive win, but fell by a final score of 3-1, dropping to 9-3-3 on the season, and 5-2-1 in the Sunshine State Conference.
Neither team scored in the first half of play despite a combined nine shots, eight of which came against Spartans goalkeeper Caroline Frykgard. The one shot for Tampa tied a season-low in the first half of a game this season.
This marks the fifth game this season that Tampa has entered the half deadlocked 0-0 with their opponent, and their second loss in such games.
The early part of the second half of play was a much different story, though, as the two sides each scored goals within a minute of each other. The Spartans went on top 1-0 at the 56-minute mark thanks to Nastasia Asgedom's fourth goal of the season, but the Panthers countered with a goal of their own at the 57-minute mark to tie the game 1-1, the seventh of the season for Keira McCarthy.
Webber took a 2-1 lead late in the second half on Eva Banton's second goal of the season at the 82-minute mark, and later extended their lead to 3-1 at the 85-minute mark on Keira McCarthy's second goal of the game, and eighth of the season.
