Erika Peitersen Claims First SSC Player of the Week Honors
The freshman scored three goals in first two career games
MELBOURNE, Fla. - Erika Peitersen has been chosen as the first women's soccer offensive player of the week for the 2017-2018 year as announced earlier today by the conference office. Peitersen was a key reason in the Spartans starting the season with a win and a draw in two games as she scored all three goals for the team in her first two collegiate games. In her debut, and coming off the bench, the freshman scored the first goal of the game and the season at Belmont Abbey. The game would end tied at 1-1 at the end of regulation and Peitersen would come in again as she scored the game winning goal 1:01 into overtime as Tampa snapped the home sides 25 game unbeaten home streak. In the second game of the season at Queens, Peitersen again was on target as she scored ten minutes after the Royals opened the scoring to tie the game at 1-1 and keep UT undefeated on the season.
The team returns to action this Friday, September 8th as they travel to Babson Park, Fla. to take on the Webber International Warriors for a 3 p.m. match before being on the road again on Sunday to take on Florida Southern in a regional match.
Sunshine State Conference Athletes of the Week are chosen from a pool of nominees for their performances during the week of August 28 - September 3, 2017. Athletes are nominated by Sports Information Directors of member institutions.
