Tampa Drops Senior Night Match to Florida Tech

TAMPA, Fla. – The University of Tampa women's soccer team dropped an SSC matchup against the Florida Tech Panthers on Saturday night at Pepin Stadium.  

INSIDE THE MATCHUP:  

Final Score: Florida Tech 2, Tampa Spartans 1  

Record: Tampa (7-7-1, 6-4 SSC) , Florida Tech (7-2-5, 3-2-4 SSC)

HOW IT HAPPENED:  

FIRST HALF: The Panthers struck early on as they netted their first goal within the first minute of the half from a free kick served into the Spartans box. The Spartans quickly gathered themselves and held the score 1-0 until the 38th as Hanna Mansson found the back of the net for the Panthers to extend their lead. The Spartans ended the half with eight shots but were unable to slide one past the Panthers goalkeeper.  

SECOND HALF: The Spartans started half off with a newfound energy level, applying pressure to the Panthers. Five minutes into the second half, Stephanie DeLaforcade cut the lead in half with a solid strike into the bottom left of the goal past the Panthers goalkeeper. The Spartans had a handful of opportunities coming from Elena Barr, Michelle Kanaskie, Katherine Hostage and DeLaforcade, but could not score the equalizer. The Panthers were held to just two shots for the remainder of the half, while the Spartans tallied five. 

INSIDE THE STATS:  

  • Spartans outshot the Panthers 15-10.  

  • Six Spartans played the entire 90 minutes.  

  • Hostage and DeLaforcade each tallied at least two shots on goal.  

  • Both goalkeepers in the match concluded with six saves.
