UT Women Earn Victory over Indian River
TAMPA, Fla. - The University of Tampa women's swimming team earned a 136-120 victory over perennial powerhouse Indian River Community College while the men were defeated by a 155-106 score.
Jessie Bardin began the individual races with a top place finish in the women's 200 Free as her time of 1:55.15 was nearly three seconds faster than the second place finisher. Kelsey Lubbers then took the 100 Breast in a time of 1:10.18 while Susanna Ashley won the 200 Fly with a 2:10.87 mark in the event. Lubbers then took her second event, placing first in the 200 Breast in 2:28.27.
Bardin put Tampa in position for the victory as she won the 500 Free in a time of 5:14.67. Jennifer Jenkins then gave UT the deciding race with a 4:40.93 time while winning the 400 IM. The Spartans concluded the race with a first place performance in the 400 Free Relay as the team of Allison Vetter, Hannah Hudson, Lubbers and Bardin won in 3:38.98.
In the men's race, Kyle Merritt earned the first top place finish for UT as he took the 100 Back in 53.36. Merritt also took the 200 Back, posting a time of 1:56.00. Chris O'Linger also turned in a first place time in the 400 IM with a time of 4:12.19.
Tampa is back in action on Saturday, Feb. 2., in its final home meet of the season as it hosts Darton. The meet is scheduled for 3 p.m.
