Spartan Swimmers Sweep National Player of Week Awards
SOMERS, Wis. - Multiple NCAA qualifying times for University of Tampa swimmers Jessie Bardin and Chris O'Linger earned the Spartan pair the Counsilman Hunsaker National Collegiate Swimmer-of-the-Week honors. The pair were selected based on their performances December 8-14 by a panel of collegiate coaches.
Bardin, a junior from St. Petersburg, had three wins at the Delta State Invitational. Among her first-place finishes were the 500 freestyle (5:01.53, NCAA "A" time), the 200 freestyle (1:51.63, NCAA "A" time), and the 100 freestyle (51.57, NCAA "A" time). She also assisted on winning the 800 freestyle relay (7:47.39), the second place 200 freestyle relay (1:38.26), the third place 200 medley relay (1:49.93) and the second place 400 freestyle relay (3:31.95, NCAA "A" time).
O'Linger, a junior who hails from Philadelphia, Pa., had two wins at the Delta State Invitational. He won the 500 freestyle (4:29.92, NCAA "A" time) and the 1650 freestyle (15:32.41, NCAA "A" time) while also finishing first in the preliminaries of the 400 individual medley (4:08.24, NCAA "B" time). He was also a part of the second place 400 medley relay (3:26.68), the 800 freestyle relay (6:47.60, NCAA "A" time) and the fifth place 400 freestyle relay (3:18.34).
