Spartan Men Register Victory Over Emory
TAMPA, Fla. - In a battle of powerhouse swimming programs, The University of Tampa men recorded a victory over Emory University. The Eagles salvaged a split with a victory in women's action.
Both programs boast teams that are consistently among the top 10 teams in their respective NCAA divisions as Emory is a NCAA III institution. In the men's meet, UT won 146-111 while Emory took the women's competition 182-80.
In men's action, Tampa turned in a total of 11 first-place finishes. The lone relay title for the Spartans came in the 200 Medley Relay as the team of Patrick Murray, Alex Hetland, Matt Kramer and Michael Verdi were the first to finish, posting a time of 1:34.82.
Among UT's 10 top performances in individual action were the 200 Free by Jeff Fiore (1:45.27), 100 Back by Kramer (53.83), 100 Breast by Hetland (56.47), 50 Free by Verdi (21.97), 500 Free by Chris O'Linger (4:42.94), 100 Free by Verdi (48.10), 200 Back by Murray (1:57.86), 200 Breast by Hetland (2:09.98), 100 Fly by Paul LaPorta (52.31) and the 1,000 Free by O'Linger (9:46.68).
The Spartan women also won two individual races, including the 200 Free title by Jessie Bardin (1:55.15) and the top time in the 200 Fly from Lindsay Calimer (2:10.00).
Tampa is back in action on Saturday as it hosts Saint Leo and Rollins.
