UT Women Defeat Powerhouse Indian River State College
FORT PIERCE, Fla. - The No. 12 University of Tampa women's swimming team registered a big victory over perennial power Indian River State College with a 137-121 victory on Saturday afternoon. The No. 10 Spartan men were defeated by a 163-99 mark.
Lindsay Calimer won three races for UT's women as Kelsey Lubbers took two first-place finishes. The Spartans began competition with a victory in the 200 Medley Relay from the team of Ellie Eschleman, Allison Vetter, Calimer and Megan Garland with a 1:52.13 showing.
Lubbers picked up her victories in the 100 Breast (1:09.79) and 200 Breast (2:24.53). After being part of the winning 200 Medley Relay team, Calimer also won the 200 Fly (2:07.90) and the 100 Fly (58.17). The other UT victory came from Jessie Bardin in the 500 Free (5:15.15).
In men's action, Tampa's Alex Hetland won three individual racing while accounting for three of four Spartan first-place finishes. Hetland championed the 100 Breast (54.97), 200 Breast (2:05.11) and the 200 IM (1:56.71). The other UT swimmer to win was Daniel Hernandez in the 200 Fly (1:54.33).
UT is back in action on Feb. 11-14 at the Bluegrass Conference Championships in Charlotte, N.C. The event will mark the final completion prior to the NCAA Championships on Mar. 11-14.
