Spartan Swimmers Find Success on Busy Saturday
TAMPA, Fla. - The University of Tampa men's
and women's swimming teams competed in a pair of meets that saw
split squads in separate locations. The No. 10 men and No. 15 women
hosted Nova Southeastern at 11 a.m., and swam at Rollins at 1
p.m.
Against Nova Southeastern, UT's men claimed a 135-127 victory
as the women fell 164-98. Tampa took both victories at Rollins, as
the men defeated the Tars 159-84 and the women won 140-102.
Tampa took both relay races against Nova Southeastern,
beginning with the 200 Medley Relay team of Jordan Augier, Wayne
Denswil, Runar Borgen and Khalid Aldaboos claiming first with a
time of 1:33.18. UT also won the 400 Free Relay with Augier, Jeremy
Parker, Martin Hammer and Derek Krell (3:03.49).
Clayton Clemens won two races for UT, taking first in the 100
Breast (1:00.04) and the 200 Breast (2:12.00). Also winning for the
Spartan men were Alberto Orejuela 1,000 Free (9:50.93)
and Augier 100 Back (51.79).
On the women's side, Brittany Bayes won the 1,000 Free
(10:42.61) for Tampa.
Against Rollins in men's action, UT won both relays as the 200
Medley Relay team of Parker Gullage, Gregory Chocko, Zach Sprague
and Kevin Cooney won with a time of 1:42.03. The 200 Free Relay
team of Kameron Kilpatrick, Sprague, Conrad Polys and Connor Zazzo
was also first with 1:32.56.
UT also posted first-place individual finishes by Josh Smith
in the 1,650 Free (17:12.39), Kilpatrick in the 200 Free (1:49.97)
and 200 Back (2:03.66), Robert Cicchini in the 100 Back (56.25),
Chocko in the 100 Breast (1:02.25) and 200 Breast (2:16.91) and
Sprague in the 200 Fly (2:03.15) and 100 Fly (55.40).
Tampa's women won the 200 Medley Relay as Nelly Hansson,
Nicole Koda, Jacqueline Russolillo and Courtney Markle were first
to the finish line in 1:54.33.
The Spartan women won a host of individual races at Rollins,
including Kimmy Barrows in the 1,650 Free (18:33.44), Megan Clapham
in the 200 Free (2:03.71), Hansson in the 100 Back (1:02.38) and
200 Back (2:13.10), Paige Dunham in the 200 Fly (2:16.66), Markle
in the 50 Free (25.47) and 100 Free (55.83) and Eleanor Johnson in
the 200 IM (2:18.81).
The Spartans will be back in action on December 18-21 at the
Nova Southeastern Invitational in Fort Lauderdale. The meet expects
to see several Spartans post qualifying time for the NCAA
