Spartan Tennis Impressive in Season Opener
TAMPA, Fla. - The 36th-ranked University of Tampa women's tennis team won five of six singles matches to register a 6-3 victory over Embry-Riddle in the 2007 season opener. Tampa improves to 1-0 as Embry Riddle, ranked fifth in the nation in NAIA, drops to 0-1.
Erin Heeder was victorious for the Spartans from the number one singles spot, registering a 6-3, 6-4 victory over Hana Im. Freshman Jessica Faber notched a 6-2, 6-2 sweep of Natalie Anaya in the number-two spot, which marked the first collegiate victory for Faber.
Other Spartan victories in singles action came from freshman Jamie Lieberman at the three spot as Caitlin Scudder and freshman Kourtney Stark posted victories in the five and six matches respectively.
Embry-Riddle took two of the three doubles matches as the UT number-three doubles team of Lindsay Pine and Scudder registered the lone victory. The pair defeated Margarita Jimenez and Anna Haller by a score of 8-2.
The Spartans travel to Rollins on Wednesday to face the #21 ranked Tars in a Sunshine State Conference matchup. The match is scheduled for 3:30 pm in Winter Park.
