Spartans Advance with Victory in SSC Tourney
TAMPA, Fla. - The 38th-ranked University of Tampa tennis team recorded a 5-1 victory over Saint Leo University to advance to tomorrow's fifth place match at the Sunshine State Conference championships at HCC. The Spartans improve their school record in victories as they now stand at 15-8. The Lions fall to 4-19 with the loss.
Tampa took two of the three doubles matches, winning at the two and three spots. Allison Beck and Jessica Faber notched an 8-2 win at the two spot while the team of Claire Darling and Caitlin Scudder won 8-2 at three.
In singles, UT then took the necessary three wins to register the victory as they won at the three, five and six spots. Kourtney Stark won at three while Beck and McLendon earned victories from the final two spots.
The Spartans will now meet 15th-ranked Rollins College tomorrow at 2 p.m. for fifth place in the SSC tourney at 2 p.m.
