#25 Augusta State Defeats Tampa
TAMPA, Fla. - The University of Tampa tennis team was defeated 8-1 by No. 25 Augusta State (Ga.) University. The loss drops UT to 0-8 while ASU improves to 5-2. The tough stretch continued for the Spartans as the match marked its sixth match against a nationally ranked opponent in a seven match span.
The format of the match was altered to create a fan-friendly environment as play consisted of six singles matches that were the best of eight games. Double play remained the same. Music was also played throughout the match while the UT tennis program provided beverages and snacks along with giveaways for fans.
Victoria Bell accounted for the lone Tampa victory, with her win coming from the number five singles position. The freshman from Tampa defeated Camila Correa by an 8-4 score.
The Spartans return to the court on Sunday as it resumes Sunshine State Conference play at home against No. 15 Rollins College at 10:30 a.m.
