UT Closes Regular Season With SSC Victory
ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - In the final regular season match of the 2009 season, The University of Tampa (9-12, 1-7 SSC) tennis team cruised to an easy 8-1 victory over Eckerd College (0-14, 0-8 SSC) in a Sunshine State Conference matchup.
Tampa swept the doubles matches as the number one team of Kourtney Stark and Claire Runge picked up an 8-1 victory. The two team of Emily Kennedy and Victoria Bell also won 8-1 as the three team of Lindsey Garyn and Megan Mancini won by default.
In singles, UT claimed victories in five of six matches as its lone loss came at the number one spot. Bell (6-0, 6-1) and Runge (6-1, 6-0) had no problems winning the number two and three events as Mancini used a 7-5 first set victory as fuel to win the second set by a 6-2 mark. Garyn turned in a 6-1, 6-1 victory at number five as Kennedy won by default in the six slot.
With the regular season complete, UT will now compete in the SSC Championships, which are scheduled for Apr. 16-19. The championships will be hosted by Lynn University in Boca Raton. Pairings have yet to be announced.
