Spartan Tennis Adds Pair Of Players
TAMPA, Fla. - University of Tampa head tennis coach Al DuFaux announced the signing of two players to National Letters of Intent. Molly Welsh and Nikol Williams will both begin classes at UT in the fall of 2009.
Welsh, a native of Weatherford, Texas, attended Peaster High School. As a junior, Welsh captured the Texas state championship while being a state qualifier all four years. The Texas Super Champ was second in the state mixed doubles as a sophomore and third as a freshman while teaming with her brother, Colby Welsh. A member of the Peaster Hall of Fame, Welsh is also a member of the National Honor Society, Who's Who and Student Council.
Williams comes to UT from Austin Texas, where she went to Lake Travis High School. While being ranked 73rd in the state of Texas, Welsh also played at the Polo Club for five years under Darin Pleasant. She also played for John Roddick, who is the brother and former coach of tennis pro Andy Roddick.
"This fall we will see two incoming freshman on the tennis team," says DuFaux. "Molly (Welsh) and Nikol (Williams) will add depth to our starting lineup as Molly won the Texas State High School Championship last year. Nikol and Molly have been playing National Open tournaments as doubles partners. Not only are they fighters on court, but both excel in the classroom with high grade point averages. The team is excited to have them join us for our upcoming season."
