UT Cruises to First Victory of Tennis Season
TAMPA, Fla. - The No. 22 University of Tampa (1-1) tennis team picked up its first victory of the 2014 season, defeating Southeastern University, Fla. (0-2) by a score of 8-1 at the Naimoli and Young Family Tennis Complex.
The Spartans won all three doubles matches, led by the number-two team of Kelsey Matthews and Lindsay Nochowicz. The duo won 8-0. The number-one team of Lauren Hewett and Meg Wladimirski registered an 8-4 victory as the three team of Jenelle Morgan and Viviana Tedino were victorious by an 8-3 count.
In singles, Tampa did not give up a game in the four, five and six matches. Nochowicz, Matthews and Katherine Pyne each blanked their opponents in straight sets. Hewett won at number two as Tedino also notched a straight set number-three triumph.
UT faces a tough test this weekend, as it meets No. 21 Nova Southeastern and No. 3 Barry on consecutive days. The Spartans will open the weekend on Saturday at 11 a.m., at Nova.
