Tampa Blanks Chestnut Hill in Showdown of Ranked Teams
TAMPA, Fla. - The No. 23 University of Tampa (3-5) tennis team registered a 9-0 win over No. 45 Chestnut Hill College (0-1) on Monday at the Naimoli & Young Family Tennis Complex.
The Spartans began the match with three victories in doubles play. Both the number-one team of Lauren Hewett and Meg Wladinirski and the number-two team of Jenelle Morgan and Viviana Tedino notched 8-5 wins. The number-three duo of Kelsey Matthews and Katherine Pyne shut out their opponents, 8-0.
In singles, Wladinirski led the way with a straight-set victory from the number-one spot. Hewett was victorious in three sets at number two, while Tedino, Matthews, Pyne and Morgan each notched lopsided victories to preserve the shutout victory.
The Spartans are back in action on Saturday at home against Mercer University. The match versus an NCAA Division I opponent will start at 2 p.m.
