Spartans Finish Undefeated Weekend With Easy Win
TAMPA, Fla. - The No. 23 University of Tampa (5-5) tennis team defeated Wayne State University, Mich. (3-2) by a score of 7-2 for its second win in as many days at the Naimoli & Young Family Tennis Complex.
The Spartans won all three doubles matches, highlighted by an 8-4 win in a nationally-ranked number-one matchup. Lauren Hewett and Meg Wladimirski, ranked No. 22 in the nation, outplayed No. 25 Anne Li Briand and Yahsha Moore.
Viviana Tedino and Alexandra Bologno won 8-4 at the two spot while the number-three team of Kelsey Matthews and Katherine Pyne won 8-3.
Wladimirski won the number-two singles match as she was joined in the victory column by teammates Tedino, Matthews and Pyne. The latter victories came from the three, four and five events.
The Spartans are back on the court on Tuesday when they host No. 21 St. Mary's (Texas). The match is scheduled for 3 p.m.
