Spartans Cruise Past Charleston
TAMPA, Fla. - Playing in its second match in as many days, the No. 23 University of Tampa (6-6) tennis team played to an easy 8-1 victory over Charleston University, W.V. (9-7) at the Naimoli & Young Family Tennis Complex.
Tampa took all three doubles matches, led by the No. 22 team of Lauren Hewett and Meg Wladimirski notching an 8-4 victory. Thashia Garcia made her 2014 debut as her return to the lineup featured an 8-3 doubles win with partner Alexandra Bologno.
The number three doubles team made it a perfect effort with an 8-1 victory coming from Katherine Pyne and Kelsey Matthews.
In singles, Tampa captured the two through six matches from Hewett, Matthews, Pyne, Jenelle Morgan and Bologno. All five wins came in straight sets for Al DuFaux's squad.
Tampa now has a week off before returning to action at home against Minnesota State University at Moorehead. The match is slated for 3 p.m.
