Surging Spartans Win Second 9-0 Match in Consecutive Days
TAMPA, Fla. - The No. 23 University of Tampa (8-6) tennis team defeated its fourth nationally-ranked opponent of the season in a 9-0 win over visiting Indiana University, Pa. (6-5) at the Naimoli & Young Family Tennis Complex.
In doubles, the top team of Lauren Hewett and Meg Wladimirski battled their way back for a 9-7 victory. Thashia Garcia and Alexandra Bologno won 8-3 at two while the number-three team of Kelsey Matthews and Katherine Pyne notched an 8-4 victory.
Wladimirski claimed a 6-4, 6-4 win in the number-one event as Garcia was a 6-0, 6-0 winner at the number two spot. Hewett took a second set tie breaker to claim the win as Pyne was a 6-0, 6-0 winner. Bologno claimed a 10-4 third-set tiebreaker to win the number six match.
The Spartans now look forward to an NCAA South Region matchup against No. 38 Palm Beach Atlantic University on Saturday at 2 p.m.
