Spartans Close Regular Season With Second Straight 9-0 Victory
ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - Playing in its final regular-season match, the No. 23 University of Tampa tennis team earned a 9-0 victory over Sunshine State Conference opponent Eckerd College.
The Spartans improve to 11-7 on the season and 2-6 in league play as the Tritons fall to 5-10 and 0-7. UT has now won five of its last six matches heading into the 2014 SSC Championships.
The top doubles team of Lauren Hewett and Meg Wladimirski won 8-4, followed by victories from the two team of Thashia Garcia and Viviana Tedino and the three team of Katherine Pyne and Alexandra Bologno.
In singles, Garcia notched a 6-3, 6-1 victory in number one as Wladimirski won at two by a score of 6-3, 6-0.
Tedino played number three in place of Hewett as the freshman had no problems with an easu 6-0, 6-1 victory. Matthews, Pyne and Jenelle Morgan were also victorious in singles for head coach Al DuFaux's squad.
UT will travel to Winter Park for the 2014 SSC Championships, which is set to begin on April 24. Rollins College is set to host the annual event, which is single elimination.
