PBA Rallies Past Spartans in Singles Play
WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. - The No. 37 University
of Tampa (1-1) tennis team was defeated by Palm Beach Atlantic
University (3-0) by a score of 5-4 on Sunday.
The Spartans got out to a quick 2-1 lead after taking both the
number one and two doubles events. The top team of Kristen Mee and
Emily Hewland won 8-5, while the second team of Kelsey Matthews and
Gianna Pinasco were victorious 8-4.
In singles, Pinasco and Matthews each won at the number two and
three spots. After winning the first set 6-4, Pinasco dropped the
second by a 6-1 score and would then regroup to win the deciding
set 7-5. Matthews won in straight sets, 6-2, 6-0.
Tampa will next meet national power Barry University on Sunday at
10 a.m., in its home opener at the Naimoli & Young Family
Tennis Complex.
