Marathon Match Goes Way of UT
TAMPA, Fla. - In a match that lasted just over five hours, the No. 45 University of Tampa (6-5) tennis team won its fifth consecutive contest in a 7-2 victory over Texas A&M University-Kingsville (9-7).
UT's top doubles team of Kristen Mee and Kelsey Matthews claimed an 8-4 win as the three team of Jenelle Morgan and Cameron Moskol prevailed by a 9-8 final following a 7-4 tiebreaker result.
In singles, Mee rebounded from a 6-2 first set loss to win the next two sets by scores of 6-2, 6-2. Matthews blanked her opponent 6-0, 6-0 at the two spot.
The number three and four singles matches both went Tampa's way in a pair of close battles. Gianna Pinasco won 7-6, 6-7, 11-9, as fellow freshman Emily Hewland took a 7-5, 7-6 win.
Morgan picked up her second close win of the day in the number six singles match. The senior fell 6-0 in the first set, but rebounded to win a second set tie breaker by an 8-6 score. Morgan then outscored her opponent 10-2 to clinch the victory.
Tampa will next host Minnesota State University-Moorhead on Friday at 3 p.m.
