Tampa Runners Enjoy Success At FSU Relays
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - The University of Tampa men's and women's track teams competed at the Florida State Relays as several Spartan individuals ran to personal and school record times.
Jess Butler completed the 5,000 with a time of 17:32.09, marking a new personal record. The time was also third in the UT record book as she provisionally qualified for the NCAA Championships.
Paige Williams and Heather Nicolosi also ran the 5,000 with respective times of 18:04.44 and 18:31.79.
In the 10,000, UT's Dayle Van Ess won the overall title for the second consecutive year with a personal best time of 37:36.95. Dara Fox also ran the 10K, logging a time of 38:40.86.
The 1,500 had three Spartans in the race, including Sarah Nelson (4:44.21), Butler (4:46.41) and Katie O'Brien (5:03.72).
Lindsay Edwards tallied an 11:15.34 in the steeple to set both a personal best and school record. She also improved her national qualifying time.
The Spartan men had three runners in the 10,000, with Tony Nicolosi setting a personal best with a time of 31:30. It was also a new school record for Nicolosi. Charles Toledo (33:06 personal best) and Chris Catanach (33:12) also ran in the 5K.
Freshman Lewis Price also set a personal and school record in the steeple with a time of 9:56.89. It also improved his national qualifying time in the event.
Other Spartan men to compete were Mike Leone in the 5K (16:52), Tory Webb in the 1,500 (4:06.19), and Kevin Harley (1:58.73) and Webb (2:00.08) in the 800.
