Top-Ranked Spartans Rebound to Top #23 Western Washington
TAMPA, Fla. - The number-one ranked University of Tampa volleyball team came back from an opening match loss to defeat 23rd-ranked Western Washington University by a score of 3-0. The Spartans move to 1-1 on the season while the Vikings drop to 1-2.
After winning the first game 30-28, the Spartans allowed Western Washington to score the first point of the second game before going on an amazing run. Tampa proceeded to take the next 13 points to go up 13-1 in the game. After the Vikings cut the margin to 13-2, UT went on another run as it stretched the lead to 23-2 en route to a 30-10 victory in the game.
The Spartans were equally impressive in game three as they never
trailed while taking a 30-21 victory in the game to seal the
match.
UT finished with a .431 hitting percentage while holding its
opponent to a .117 clip. UT's 66 digs, compared to just 46 by WWU,
figured into the impressive hitting percentage disparity.
Alisha Green led the way for Tampa once again, registering a team-high 18 kills with a .739 attack percentage. Erin Clark and Danielle MacDonald each chipped in 10 kills apiece while Margeaux Sinibaldi led the team with 22 digs. Katelen Dixon added 13 digs while Camila Saade had 10.
Annalea Warren also turned in a career day for the Spartans, setting a career high with nine kills. Warren finished with a .643 hitting percentage and also added four digs and an ace.
The Spartans return to action tomorrow against Colorado-Colorado Springs in the final match of the 2007 Tampa Classic. The match is slated for 1 p.m.
