Catanach Earns South Region Coach of the Year Honors
LEXINGTON, Ky. - University of Tampa volleyball coach Chris Catanach has been named the AVCA South Region Coach of the Year, marking the fifth consecutive year that he has received the award.
In his 26th season with UT, Catanach continues to keep his program on the national radar. In 2009, the veteran mentor has guided his team to a 31-2 overall record and a 15-1 Sunshine State Conference (SSC) record, earning Tampa a share of its fifth straight and 18th overall league title.
Under his leadership this season, the Spartans earned their 14th consecutive and 24th overall appearance in the NCAA Division II Tournament and captured its 12th straight NCAA Division II South Region title by sweeping through their three matches during the event. Catanach reached the 800-win milestone in 2009 and now holds an 810-153 career record.
This is the fifth consecutive time, and 13th overall, that Catanach has earned AVCA Division II South Region Coach of the Year honors.
Each of the honorees will represent their region on the 2009 AVCA National Coach of the Year ballot. The awards will be officially presented at the 2009 Jostens Coaches Honors Luncheon in Tampa, Fla., on Thursday, Dec. 17, at the 2009 American Volleyball Coaches Association Annual Convention.
