Spartans Re-Mane Undefeated After Taming Lions in Three
TAMPA, Fla. - Coasting to a 12-0 record, the No. 2 University of Tampa volleyball team defeated Saint Leo University in three sets. The Spartans remain perfect with a 12-0 record while leading the Sunshine State Conference 4-0 as the Lions fall to a 6-5 record with a 2-1 tally in SSC play.
Junior middle hitter Danielle Selkridge swatted 13 kills in 17 swings, good for a .647 hitting percentage. The 6'2 Virgin Islands native also blocked four Lion attacks with seniors Camille Hanks and Brianne Yeates blocking three each. Setter Kahley Patrick led all Spartans with 23 assists and nine digs while swinging 4-for-4 in kills.
Tampa won its first set 25-21 as three Spartans notched four kills in Selkridge, freshman Meagan Burke, and outside hitter Jessica Yingling. Setting duo Patrick and Sloane Bâby assisted eight and four UT attacks respectively.
The second set was won by a 12 point margin as the Spartans plowed through the Lions defense as the team combined for a blistering .708 attack percentage while limiting SLU to a .136 clip. Selkridge hit 5-for-5 in the second frame, while Patrick and Yeates also killed 2 in 2 chances. UT ended the stanza 25-13.
The Spartans ended the night winning the final set 25-22 as the teams tied the score five times. Yeates struck again with a familiar 2-for-2 as Selkridge contributed four kills and two blocks to round out the match.
