Danielle Selkridge Named First-Team Daktronics All-American
WAYNE, Neb. - University of Tampa volleyball player Danielle Selkridge became a first-team All-American by both the American Volleyball Coaches of America (AVCA) and Daktronics as the latter announced the UT standout on Wednesday. Eva Dupay was also named an honorable mention All-American.
For the second consecutive season, Samantha Middleborn of Cal State-San Bernardino was honored for her play as the top player after being named the 2011 Ron Lenz Daktronics Volleyball National Player of the Year.
Middleborn was one of three players to repeat as Daktronics First Team All-America selections, joining Concordia-St. Paul sophomore setter Amanda Konetchy and Tusculum sophomore libero Caitlyn Dean. Other Daktronics First Team All-America honorees include Selkridge and senior outside hitters Hillary Hurley of Hawaii-Hilo, Megan Carlson of Concordia-St. Paul and Lunden Azuara of Southeastern Oklahoma State.
Selkridge continues a lengthy tradition of All-Americans at Tampa, leading the Spartans to a third-straight South Region championship this season. The junior middle hitter tops NCAA Division II with an astounding .517 hitting percentage and also leads the team in kills, blocks and points per set. Selkridge helped Tampa to a 32-1 record this season and the No. 2 national ranking while collecting Sunshine State Conference and South Region Player of the Year honors for the Spartans.
Voting for the award was conducted by sports information directors at Division II institutions nationwide.
