Tampa Concludes Season at No. 3 in AVCA Poll
LEXINGTON, Ky. - After ending the 2011 season with a 33-2 overall record, the University of Tampa volleyball team is ranked No. 3 in the final installment of the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) NCAA Division II poll.
The Spartans concluded the 2011 campaign as a national semifinalist after capturing its third consecutive NCAA South Regional crown. The Spartans also win the program's seventh straight Sunshine State Conference title as it has now won 30-plus games in five of the last six seasons.
Five-time defending national champion Concordia University St.
Paul is the No. 1 team in the final standings, with national
runner-up University of California in State Bernardino being No. 2.
Concordia breezed through the NCAA tournament, losing just one game
along the way. UT was the lone team to take a set from the
Bears.
The latest top five ranking continues Tampa's streak of 27 straight
weeks while the team has been ranked in 216 straight releases,
second only to Central Missouri.
