Spartans Volleyball Coast to Victory Over Sharks
FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. - The No. 5 University of Tampa volleyball team continues its torrid Sunshine State Conference record with a rout of Nova Southeastern University in a straight-sets sweep.
The Spartans rise to 13-2 on the season with a pristine 6-0 tally in the conference while the hosting Sharks sink to 4-15 on their 2012 campaign and a 1-5 mark in the SSC.
Sophomore Meagan Burke swung an impressive .611 attack percentage, leading the squad with 12 kills. Junior Holly Reschke posted double-digit kills, grounding an errorless 10 at a .455 clip.
Libero Jen Scholz amassed 18 digs in the three-set victory to pace the defensive tempo. Middle blocker Burke also flashed some defense, blocking three Shark attacks. Outside hitters Reschke and Kim Amerell notched three and two blocks respectively, while Jessica Yingling tallied eight digs.
The win puts the Spartans on the verge of the programs millennial win, with 887 of those under the helm of head coach Chris Catanach. The team will look to earn their 1,000 victory facing a tough conference opponent in Eckerd College. The Tritons handed the Spartans their only regular season loss in UT's 2011 season.
