Senior Spartan Records 1000th Kill in Win Over Barry
TAMPA, Fla. - To the tune of 1000 career kills, Danielle Selkridge led the No. 5 University of Tampa volleyball team to a 3-1 victory over Barry University. The swift-swinging senior posted 13 kills on the match to become the 16th player in program history to reach the 1000 kill plateau, just days after leading the Spartans to the program's 1000th win.
The Tampa team improves to 15-2 on the season with an unbeaten 8-0 record in the Sunshine State Conference while the Bucs drop to 10-8 with a 3-4 tally in conference.
Junior Holly Reschke grounded a team-leading 15 kills to compliment Selkridge. The tandem swung at an even .500 attack percentage while sophomore Meagan Burke swatted seven kills in addition to providing solid defense with eight blocks.
Senior Jessica Yingling and libero Jen Scholz aided the defensive tempo with seven and eight digs respectively. Yingling blocked four Barry attacks in the four-set win.
The Spartans took a first set win by a 25-20 margin as Burke swung a perfect 2-for-2. Scholz notched four digs in the premier stanza of play.
Barry battled back in the second frame to even the match. Bucs hitter Laine Cielena planted four kills for the visiting squad while UT outside hitter Reschke tallied six in the 23-25 loss.
Selkridge returned the advantage to Tampa as the senior tallied five kills in six swings in the 25-18 second set win.
The fourth set was won by a 25-18 score as Reschke posted five kills while Burke picked up four blocks to seal the victory for Tampa. The Spartans have faced each SSC opponent and remain victorious with their pristine 8-0 record in conference.
