Selkridge Sizzles as Tampa Snuffs Blazers
TAMPA, Fla. - Kicking off the Red Elephant Café South Region Crossover, the No. 2 University of Tampa volleyball team swept Valdosta State University 3-0. Senior Danielle Selkridge dazzled the opposition with a perfect 10-for-10 kill performance.
The Spartans improve to 17-2 on the season while the visiting Blazers drop to 12-9. Tampa has won its last 11 matches heading into day two of the tournament.
Outside hitter Jessica Yingling recorded six kills, five digs and two aces on the match. Juniors Kim Amerell and Holly Reschke notched five kills while freshman duo Megan Heffron and Marissa Lisenbee also grounded five attacks.
Libero Jen Scholz led the defense with nine digs and five assists in the straight-sets win. Setters Sloane Bâby and Kahley Patrick each assisted 16 Spartan attacks while posting seven and six digs respectively.
Selkridge dominated the first set with a five kill showing in as many chances. The senior also tallied a service ace in the 25-16 win.
The middle hitter mirrored her first set performance with another pristine five kills. The UT squad won the second stanza by a 25-12 margin.
Amerell led Tampa to victory as the junior planted five kills of her own in the final set of play. Outside hitting Heffron contributed four kills in the third frame as Tampa sealed the victory with a 25-21 win.
