Tampa Volleyball Tops Sharks in Sweep
TAMPA, Fla. - The No. 7 University of Tampa volleyball team defeated Nova Southeastern University in a three set Friday night sweep. The Spartans protect its flawless record in the Sunshine State Conference, extending its pristine mark to 13-0 on the season.
Tampa continues to lead the SSC and improves its overall record to 24-3. The Sharks of Nova Southeastern fall to 4-25, 1-12 SSC.
Reigning Sunshine State Conference Player of the Week Danielle Selkridge, continues to be the leader for the Spartans. The senior recorded 12 kills on 15 attacks, worthy of a .800 attack percentage. Other contributors to the Spartan offense included Meagan Burke and Marissa Lisenbee, who added 8 and 7 kills respectively.
After a nine kill outing in the Spartans win last weekend at Florida Southern, Holly Reschke got the Spartans going again tonight. Tampa won the first set 25-15, behind five kills from the junior. Sophomore Jackie Neff also helped by connecting on three of four swings.
For the second frame, the Sharks were overmatched by Selkridge, who swung for a perfect 5-5. Setter Kahley Patrick had 10 of her 37 total assists on the set, and added two digs. The middle blocker Burke also contributed, adding five kills as the Spartans were able to win the set 25-20.
The third stanza featured a great display of teamwork as six Spartans recorded multiple kills. Tampa also showed solid defense with 11 digs and a block solo from Jessica Yingling. Overall, UT limited Nova to just 13 points as they finished off the Sharks with a 25-13 victory.
The Spartans will return tomorrow afternoon for a Sunshine State Conference matchup against Lynn University at 3 p.m.. The Fighting Knights of Lynn come in with a 14-9 (4-7 SSC) record on the season. Saturdays match will serve as Senior Day for the Spartans as Selkridge, Yingling and Sloane Baby will be honored prior to the start.
