No. 2 Spartans Stomp Saints in Three Sets
The No. 2 University of Tampa volleyball team defeated Flagler
College in a three set sweep on Wednesday night in the Martinez
Athletic Center. The Spartans improve to 21-1 on the season while
the Saints drop to 14-9.
Rightside hitter Marissa Lisenbee led Tampa with 11 kills and four
blocks registering an errorless .688 hitting percentage for the
night. Middle blocker Meagan Burke torched the Saints for eight
kills a torrid .636 clip. Outside hitter Berkley Whaley joins her
teammate at the top of the board with eight additional kills.
Libero Jen Scholz and setter Kahley Patrick tallied nine digs
apiece. Junior Patrick paced the Spartans with 29 assists and a
team hitting percentage of .367.
Flagler middle blocker Abby Meyers paved the way for her squad with
seven kills. Libero Caitlyn Kovach and outside hitter Genel
Sturgeon amassed nine and eight digs respectively.
The Spartans claimed the premier set in a decisive 25-13 score.
The Lisenbee and Whaley duo rocketed a combined 11 kills. Tampa's
Scholz and Flagler's Sturgeon tallied seven digs each.
Tampa continued their momentum in the second frame with a 25-14
decision. Burke and Neff registered perfect kill percentages with
four kills apiece. The Saint's Meyers tallied three kills in the
set.
The Spartans finalized the win in the third stanza at 25-15. Once
again, Lisenbee led the set with four kills. Outside hitter Megan
Heffron tallied four digs to complete the frame.
Tampa returns to action on Nov. 1 at 7 p.m. to play Florida Tech in
