Spartans Kickoff 2014 Season with 3-1 Victory
No. 2 Tampa Defeats No. 13 Ferris State

TAMPA, Fla. - The No. 2 University of Tampa
volleyball kicked off the 2014 season with an exciting win over No.
13 Ferris State in the Spartans' Tampa Classic tournament.
In addition to picking up their first victory of the season,
Tampa handed the Bulldogs their first loss of the season in a 3-1
victory (25-23, 25-16, 23-25, 25-18).
Freshman Kasey Reynolds made an instant impact on the court
from her libero position, notching 17 digs on the night in her
debut with the Red and Black.
As a team, the Spartans earned a total of 17 blocks on the
night, while junior middle blocker Jessica Wagner led the squad
with five.
Outside hitters Allee Stelogeannis and Berkley Whaley had
strong defensive showings as well, tallying 11 and ten digs,
respectively.
Megan Heffron and Wagner led the way for the Spartans
offensively, as Heffron tallied 12 kills and Wagner wrapped up the
evening with ten. The squad was supported by senior setter Kahley
Patrick, who recorded 47 of 49 total sets on the night.
Tampa will continue the Tampa Classic on Friday and Saturday
with a pair of matches against No. 5 Central Missouri (Sep. 5, 4:45
p.m.) and Tusculum (Sep. 6, 12:15 p.m.) Both games will be played
at the Martinez Center on the campus of the University of
Tampa.
