Spartans Topple No. 5 Central Missouri in 3-0 Rally
UT Improves to 2-0 through Tampa Classic Tournament
TAMPA, Fla. - After picking up their first win of the season on Thursday night, the Tampa Spartans returned to the Martinez Center on Friday afternoon to down the No. 5 Central Missouri Jennies.
The Spartans improve to a perfect 2-0 on the season after defeating the visiting Jennies by a 3-0 score (25-21, 25-15, 25-14).
All-American outside hitter Berkley Whaley led the way offensively during the match, notching 16 kills and earning a .400 attack percentage. Junior Marissa Lisenbee followed suit with nine kills as well, while junior Megan Heffron grounded seven.
Senior setter Kahley Patrick was again a strong presence on the court, racking up 34 assists and leading her squad with 13 digs. Whaley added 11 digs of her own and freshman libero Kasey Reynolds notched ten, as the Spartans tallied a team total 56.
Defensively, the Spartans continued to have a strong net presence with eight total blocks.
Tampa will wrap up the Tampa Classic on Saturday, Sep. 6 with a pair of afternoon matchups against Tusculum at 12:15 p.m. and No. 24 Indianapolis at 7:00 p.m. All tournament contests will be played at the Martinez Center on the campus of the University of Tampa.
