Trio of Tampa Volleyball Student-Athletes Named AVCA All-Americans
The Spartans placed Jessica Wagner and Berkley Whaley on the First Team while senior Marissa Lisenbee was selected to the Second Team.
LEXINGTON, Ky. – The American Volleyball Coaches Association has released its All-America teams for the 2015 season on Tuesday. Three University of Tampa student-athletes repeat their All-America selections, highlighted by senior Berkley Whaley earning her third-consecutive First Team honor.
Fellow senior Jessica Wagner repeats as a First Team selection, garnering top-squad honors in her junior season. Classmate Marissa Lisenbee notched her third All-American selection, picking up Second Team honors for her 2015 campaign.
The trio of awards bring a total of 60 AVCA All-Americans in the history of Tampa volleyball, more than any other Division II program.
Whaley concluded her storied Spartan career in dramatic fashion, leading the No. 3 ranked Tampa to a South Region Semifinal appearance. The outside hitter earned All-Tournament honors after finishing with 45 kills and 22 digs in a pair of postseason contests. The St. Petersburg, Fla. native ended the year with a career-best 473 kills and 359 digs, totaling 1350 across her Spartan career.
Wagner received back-to-back honors after posting her strongest offensive season, grounding 347 kills at a .420 attack percentage. The middle blocker stopped 126 opposing swings and concluded her Spartan career with 835 kills and 405 total blocks.
Lisenbee earned Second Team honors after making her fourth postseason appearance as a member of the Spartans. The right-side hitter has amassed 412 kills during her senior season, a career-best mark. Lisenbee posted 1103 kills across her four years at Tampa, hitting at a solid .315 attack clip. The senior has 207 digs in her final season of competition as Tampa concluded 2015 in the South Region Tournament.
Palm Beach Atlantic placed senior Faith Rohn on the First Team, as Rohn claimed the honor for the first time in Sailfish history. The PBA outside hitter was the only other athlete from the South Region to earn First Team honors.
Saint Leo and Eckerd each placed an athlete on the Third Team, as outside hitter Tjasa Kotnik of the Tritons and Anna Siruckova of the Lions were named All-Americans.
