Spartans Soar Past Eagles in 3-1 Victory

Tampa Volleyball advances to 9-1 on the 2018 season, 2-0 in SSC competition.

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The University of Tampa Spartans defeated the Embry-Riddle Eagles 3-1 by set scores of 25-15, 19-25, 25-18, and 25-18. The Spartans move to 2-0 in SSC play, while the Eagles fall to 1-1.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
 The outside duo of Katie McKiel and Sorrel Houghton dominated the Spartan's offense with 17 kills each. McKiel ended the match hitting .228, while also logging 13 digs, while Houghton earned a kill percentage of .317. Sammy Mueller quarterbacked the offense to victory with 41 assists and 14 digs. Nicole Dominguez played libero for UT, earning a season-high and team-high of 23 digs. Melissa Elias also contributed heavily on both offense and defense with eight kills and 14 digs in the contest. The Spartans took the first, third, and fourth sets to win the game.

INSIDE THE STATS:

• Katie McKiel earned her seventh double-double of the season with 17 kills and 13 digs.

• Sammy Mueller earned her sixth double-double of the season with 41 assists and 14 digs.

• Nicole Dominguez earned a season-high of 23 kills.

BEYOND THE BOXSCORE:
 Tampa leads the all-time series against the Eagles 8-0.

 The Spartans will continue their 2018 campaign with two mid-week games against Rollins and Eckerd on Tuesday and Thursday respectively.
