Rivera Wins Player of the Week for Fifth Time
MELBOURNE, Fla.- University of Tampa volleyball player, Claudia Rivera, has been selected as a Sunshine State Conference Player of the Week after her strong performance for the Spartans.
Rivera wins Defensive Player of the Week for the fifth time in 2021 as Tampa clinched the 2021 championship last week. The Gurabo, Puerto Rico native, recorded 19 digs during a 3-0 win at Rollins. Rivera then tallied 31 digs and six assists in a 3-1 win against Embry-Riddle. She averaged 7.14 digs per set this past week and currently leads the SSC in digs (543) and digs per set (5.27). Rivera becomes the eighth SSC volleyball athlete to win five or more weekly awards in a single season, first since 2015-16.
After wrapping up the 2021 regular season this past weekend with wins over both Rollins and Embry-Riddle, the Spartans are now set to compete in the NCAA South Regional tournament.
