Forry Runs to Second Place Finish, Woznicki Leads Tampa Women
Tallahassee, Fla. - The University of Tampa men's and women's cross country teams competed in the FSU Invite on Saturday in a meet that featured seven men's teams and eight on the women's side. The 15th-ranked Spartan women finished second overall, behind Florida State while the men were fourth, trailing Florida State, Embry-Riddle and West Florida. Of the 15 teams competing in the two races, nine were from the Division I ranks.
Laura Woznicki led the women's team as the junior finished fifth of 86 runners with a time of 18:45.77. In five races this season, Woznicki has now posted UT's top time in every meet. Freshman Paige Williams was the next Spartan to cross the finish line, placing 11 th with a time of 19:03.60. Jessica Forrester also turned in a top-15 performance with a time of 19:29.40 that was good for 15 th. The other Spartans to round out the top-five in the team totals were Dara Fox (21 st, 19:45.46) and Michelle Gabrielle (28 th, 19:59.33). Sarah Nelson, Leela Hadsock and Nicole Miranda also participated in the 5K for UT.
David Forry turned in an excellent finish for the Tampa men, placing second of 68 runners with a time of 25:47.32. His top finish of the 2006 season, Forry has now finished in the top-10 in four of five races. Tony Nicolosi followed Forry with a 23 rd place finish and a time of 27:02.00. Jake Bess (28 th, 27:26.44), Jeremy Lautzenheiser (32 nd, 27:35.26) and Chris Catanach (37 th, 27:42.27) rounded out the top-five for the Spartans. Other Tampa runners finishing the 8K run were Scott Cohen, Trevor VanKnotsenburg, Steve Cain, Josh Salas and Ryan McCall.
