Tampa Women Place First at NCAA II Pre-Nationals
Pensacola, Fla. - The 16th-ranked University of Tampa women's cross country team captured the team championship at the NCAA II Pre-Nationals, which is a prelude to the National Championships on November 18 in Pensacola. The Spartan men also participated, finishing sixth of 11 in a race featuring some of the top teams in NCAA II.
In the women's race, Laura Woznicki paced the Spartans with a second-place finish after running a time of 22:21. The Spartans recorded 61 points en route to a victory over Northern Kentucky (second place) and West Florida (third place). Paige Williams was the second Spartan to cross the finish line with a time of 22:53 and a seventh place overall finish. Jessica Forrester and Alysha Duffy turned in 14 th and 15 th place finishes as Sara Nelson placed 23 rd in a field of 65 runners.
David Forry led Tampa in the men's race, finishing fifth of 75 runners with a time of 33:41. Jake Bess was UT's next runner to finish the race with a 31 st place performance and a time of 36:01. Tony Nicolosi placed 39 th with a time of 36:19. The other two individuals were Jeremy Lautzenheiser (44 th) and Scott Cohen (45 th). The race was won by Harding, followed by Northern Kentucky, Florida Southern, West Florida, Alabama-Huntsville and Tampa.
