Austin Rettig Selected for 2017 Dark Horse Dunker
TAMPA, Fla. - Senior Austin Rettig has been selected for the 2017 College Slam Dunk Championships presented by State Farm. Contestants were determined by Intersport, Inc. in conjunction with State Farm Insurance from submissions received from collegiate athletics administrators.
During the contest voting period, players will be voted on by the public on darkhorsedunker.com in a bracket-style fan voting competition featuring a profile and highlight reel for each player. The voting contest starts on February 14, 2107 at 12:00 pm Central Time and ends on March 17, 2017 at 11:59 a.m. Central Time.
There are four phases of fan voting where player selections will be narrowed from 16 to two. The grand prize will consist of a three day/two night trip to Phoenix, Arizona where the grand prize winner will participate in the event.
Last year, Barry University standout Yunio Barrueta won the Dark Horse Dunk Voting Contest and took his talents to Texas where he competed in the College Slam Dunk Championships that aired on ESPN.
Rettig averages 13 points per game, tallying double figure points in 18 of the last 24 games of the 2016-17 season. He is shooting 50 percent from the field, has recorded 77 rebounds, 34 assists, and 15 steals and blocks.
