
Tampa Places 54 Student-Athletes on SSC Honor Roll
Members of five teams recognized for academic success with women's cross country producing the highest number of honorees.
MELBOURNE, Fla. - A total of 651 student-athletes have been named to the 2017 Fall Sunshine State Conference Commissioner's Honor Roll; it was announced Wednesday, March 7th by Commissioner Ed Pasque. A total of 142 student-athletes carried a perfect 4.00 grade-point average for the fall semester.
The University had five teams with honorees, and totaled 54 student-athletes on the Commissioner's Honor Roll. The Spartans had 14 members conclude the semester with a perfect 4.0 GPA.
The total breaks the previous record number of 532 student-athletes that were named to the 2016 Fall Commissioner's Honor Roll. It is the fifth consecutive record-breaking fall for the SSC Honor Roll.
"Sunshine State Conference student-athletes are among the best in the country athletically, academically, and in their communities," stated Commissioner Pasque. " Today's announcement of 651 student-athletes on the Commissioner's Honor Roll is further evidence of this fact."
To be eligible for the Fall SSC Commissioner's Honor Roll, a student-athlete must post a minimum grade-point average of 3.20 on a scale of 4.00. Participants in the sports of men's and women's cross country, men's and women's soccer and volleyball were eligible for the fall honor roll.
Having won 102 Division II National Championships since the league was founded in 1975, SSC's student-athletes have proven to be successful in the classroom as well. The SSC boasts an Academic Success Rate of 86-percent for the seventh consecutive year. The mark ranks first among all 24 Division II conferences.
