
Tampa Honors Student Athletes at Annual Spartys
TAMPA, Fla. - The University of Tampa athletic department hosted its annual Spartys banquet on Sunday, recognizing student-athletes at an event including members from each of the 20 NCAA-sponsored sports at UT. The event was held at Armature Works in Tampa.
Hosting the event were members of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC). Members of the SAAC group also presented awards to each of the recipients.

Scholar-Athlete Award
This award is presented to the top academic male and female. The following information is considered: Year in school, UT GPA, Major/Minor & Academic Accolades including Dean's List, etc. Click here for complete list of winners.
Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year

Iron Spartan Award
This award recognizes the student-athlete who demonstrates intensity, focus, leadership, positive attitude and has shown improved athletic performance due to their consistency in the weight room. The areas that are noted, but not limited to, include using the weight room as a means to improve on-court/field performance, observed improvements in strength/explosiveness as an athlete and setting the tone/promoting the weight room to the team. Freddie Solomon Community Service Award
An alum and former NFL great, Freddie Solomon was also known as a man who devoted his time and efforts to giving back and serving his community. A former football player at UT, Solomon went on to enjoy a prosperous NFL career where he was a Super Bowl champion as a wide receiver for the San Francisco 49ers. Solomon was also a fixture in the Tampa Bay community, helping numerous charities and becoming involved with the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office. Click here for complete list of winners.

Melissa Vanderhall Spartan Cape Award
