Bio

Robert Fiedler serves as the Assistant Athletic Director for Business and Compliance at the University of Tampa. In this role, he manages the department’s financial and regulatory operations, including oversight of athletic scholarship budget and athletics operating budget. Fiedler ensures institutional and NCAA compliance while supervising the preparation and evaluation of budgets across 22 cost centers. He coordinates the certification of academic eligibility for all Spartan student-athletes, monitors scholarship offers, and prepares NCAA-mandated reports, including the Sports Sponsorship and Demographics Report and the Academic Success Rate Report. He also oversees the integration of key software systems, including Teamworks and Compliance Assistant 2.0 with Slate and Workday, enhancing the efficiency of departmental operations.

Before being promoted to his current position in 2018, Fiedler served as Tampa’s Assistant Athletic Director for Compliance, a role he assumed in 2013. During that time, he created and maintained the university’s Compliance Manual, processed NCAA waivers and violation reports, and oversaw rules education sessions for coaches, student-athletes, and staff. He has also served as the sport administrator for men’s soccer and softball, while representing the department at NCAA postseason events.

Before joining the University of Tampa, Fiedler spent four years at Brevard College in North Carolina, where he served as Assistant Athletics Director for Compliance and Academic Services and previously as Director of Compliance. At Brevard, he managed all aspects of NCAA Division II compliance, including eligibility certification, financial aid, and recruiting documentation. He was instrumental in developing the college’s National Letter of Intent program, performing audits of recruiting activity, and overseeing the submission of NCAA and conference waivers and violation reports. In addition to compliance oversight, Fiedler played a key role in academic monitoring and served as a liaison to multiple campus committees.

Fiedler began his compliance career at Syracuse University, where he served as Assistant Compliance Coordinator following a year as a compliance intern. While at Syracuse, he worked within the Office of Athletic Compliance, verifying eligibility for prospective student-athletes, reconciling financial aid packages, and administering student-athlete employment and assistance fund programs. He also monitored recruiting activities, audited complementary admissions, and assisted with institutional camps and clinics.

His career in collegiate athletics began at Slippery Rock University, where he served as a graduate assistant to the athletic director and later as an intern in the athletics office. In these roles, he supported game operations, compliance documentation, and administrative projects within the athletic department while pursuing his graduate degree.

A dedicated professional with over two decades of experience in intercollegiate athletics, Fiedler is a current member of the NCAA Division II Committee for Legislative Relief and previously served on the NCAA Division II Nominating Committee.

Fiedler earned his master’s degree in sport management from Slippery Rock University and a bachelor’s degree in health and physical education with a concentration in sport administration from Edinboro University.
